Sri Soori Maarkandeya Sastri garu has started this prestigious instution 108 years back with only two students on 08-02-1908 (on Plavanga nama samvatsara, on magha sudhhapanchami according to telugu calendar)
As he did not have any offsprings, he has adopted Soori Bhagavantham garu from Gudivada.Soori Bhagavantham garu is a very eminent scientist in India. He is one of the disciples of noble prize winners from India, Sir C V Raman. This institution was started in 1912, within an area of 2 acres 6 scents. Smt. Uppuluri Punnamma garu wife of Sri Uppuluri Subbayya garu who is a resident of Keesarapalli has donated a self sufficient building for this institution.
All the 4 vedas, along with Smartha – Nyaya ( tarka), Vedanta, Meemamsa, Vyakarana etc can be pursued in this vedic institution. Scholars like Brahmasri Vemuri Raamabrahma Sastri garu, Srimaan G. Yatiraaja Sampatkumaar acharyula vaaru, Sri Purighulla Chalapati Avadhanulu garu, Sri Garikipaati Buchhi Appayyasastry garu, Sri Jayanti Bhageeradha Sastri garu taught sastras. Kambhampaati Lakshminaarayanavadhanulu vaaru, Sri Sannidhanam Ramakrishnaavadhanulu garu taught Vedam in this institution. Brahmasri Vemuri Raamabrahma Sastri garu was the person who taught Nyaya & vedanta to approximately 48 students.
Scholars from other areas were invited to examine the students from this school. Renowned Sanskrit Scholar Sriman Maddulapalli Manikya Sastry garu, Sri Ramachandrula Koteswara Sarma garu, Sri Uppuluri Punnayya Sastry garu, Mahaamahopadhyaya Brahmasri Keertiseshulu Mudiganda Venkatarama Sastry garu, one of the disciples of world renowned Tirupati Venkata Kavi, Sri Veluri Sivarama Sastri garu, Sri Khandrika Seshavadhanulu garu, Sri Chaada Subrahmanya Sastri garu, Sri Sristi Sambamurthy garu were part of alumni to this institution.
In between 1912-1952 Sri Markandeya Sastri garu, Suri Bhagavantham garu, Devulapalli Viswanatham garu, Sri Veluri Sivarama Sastry garu, Sri Doorbhala Sobhanaadri Sastri garu, Sri Bhagawan Sathya Sai Baba vaaru, Sri Soori Sobhanaadri Sastri garu, Sri Devulapalli Srirama Murthy garu, Chaturvedula RamaNarasimham garu, Soori Krishnamurthy garu, Narayana murthy garu were the scholars& eminent personalities who served in the positions like President, Secretarty to this greatest institution. In 1952, this institution has grown to a status of Suri Markandeyasamskruta Oriental Kalaasala. Sri K Somasekhara Sastri garu, Peri Venkateswara Sastry garu served as Principals to this institution. The Alumni of this instution Mudigonda Sivaramakrishna Sastri garu, Sri Sannidhanam Sudarsana Sarma garu, Sri Cherukupalli Subrahmanya Sarma garu, Sri Ramachandrula Koteswara Sarma garu, Sri K. Gangadhara Rao garu, Sri J. Ramakrishna garu served as faculty in this college. This glorious institution was closed in the year of 1997.
This instution was thenresurrected under the abled guidance of Sri SalakaRaghunathaSarma garu, Sri DorbhalaPrabhakaraSarma garu as President, Suri Lakshmi Narayana Sarma garu and others in their respective honorary roles. With their stupendous effort, on 04-02-2014, i.e. On Magha SudhhaPanchami according to Telugu Calendar this was re-opened. This premier institution isbeing run with the help of Andhra Pradesh Endowments department & other generous donators in a very grand scale.
